This elegant country mansion, near Wimborne Minster, Dorset was the home of the Bankes family for more than 300 years after the destruction of the previous family seat at Corfe Castle during the English Civil War. The house originally built in the 17th-century, was radically altered in the 19th century by Sir Charles Barry, architect of the Houses of Parliament and also for Cliveden which is another National Trust property with its own mug designed by Alison.
The family's collection of art is outstanding, with paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Titian and Brueghel as well as the largest private collection of Egyptian artefacts in the UK.
In 1981, the last owner, Henry John Ralph Bankes bequeathed the Kingston Lacy estate (including 12 working farms and Corfe Castle) to the National Trust, its largest bequest to date.
Mug comes with certificate of origin signed by Alison.
